What is an oriental carpet ?
In
the field of carpets, the word "oriental" has become synonymous
with "hand-knotted". Oriental carpets are primarily woven in
Turkey, Iran, Caucasus, India, Afghanistan, Pakistan and China.
Their
most distinguishing characteristic is their unique quality in terms of
patterns, colours and craftsmanship. Every design on an oriental carpet is
symbolic of the local folklore of it's region. Overall patterns are almost
never identically repeated. A carpet reflects the ingenuity of it's weaver
in every knot and tie. Human element, including it's imperfections, is what
makes a hand-made carpet so unique and authentic.
A
hand-made carpet is a colourful highlight and is at home in any sort of
property. These carpets are extremely hard-wearing and in many cases should
last over 60 years in normal use. When this is taken account of the carpets
represents excellent value for money against normal fitted carpets that may
have a life expectancy as low as 10 years.
